Right time to eat dinner for weight loss

 Before we jump into the right time for eating dinner, we must know the harmful effects of eating dinner too late at night.

The main harms of eating dinner late at night are:-

Poor digestion:- the calories you intake do not get digested properly resultingly storing excessive fat in your body.

A late night dinner can result in acid secretion that may lead to several gastric issues.

As your metabolism slows down at night, this can result in ineffective weight management and weight gain.

This can also bring problems like indigestion and heartburn.

A Harvard study says that no matter how healthy or nutritious you eat, if you do not do it at the right time, then that might not be proved very effective for your weight loss schedule. The time at which you eat food also determines your metabolism. It is important for an easy digestion process that you fuel your body at the right time.

So, the question is what exactly is the right time to eat dinner especially when you are planning to loose weight.

The optimum time for dinner should be after 4-5 hours of eating lunch preferably between 6.00pm to 6.30pm while others suggest to have dinner before 7.00pm. Now before you think that your routine does not allow you to have your dinner this early. You should know the reason why you should avoid having dinner too late. 

According to Ayurveda, the digestive fire(agni) is stronger the higher the position of the sun. In simple words, as the day ends, your metabolic rate goes down. For this reason, it has been said that if you want to consume food that is too difficult to digest, the best timing for that is 10am to 2pm.( Again because of the position of the sun). Consequently, one should also keep in mind that the longer you give your body between the last meal and bedtime, the better.

Now, how to bring balance even heavy late night dinner:-

Now, there could be days in which you have to eat dinner late at night maybe because of any exam preparation or extra office work. In such extreme situations, even if had heavy dinner. You could follow these tips:-

Opt for a smaller and lighter meal, avoid taking a protein rich meal before bedtime. To help with your digestive tract, it’s best to walk around for some while for some light exercise. Your body digests faster when in an upright position and sleeping position interferes with that process. So, do not sleep immediately after having a meal.

Not only late night dinner causes you weight gain but cause high blood sugar levels as well regardless of calories consumed. Therefore, eating dinner at 6pm instead of 10pm or past 10pm promotes your fat burning ability and easy fat loss. When you consume your food before 7pm, the time gap for your next morning meal increases. This in turn increases fat loss. And this makes your body use your body fat for energy while you sleep.
