What is gluten and gluten intolerance ? Why is it considered unhealthy for you ?

We are always impressed by the taste and how presentable the food is , rather than considering the essential nutrients and benefits behind it . 

 Gluten ” might be a very new word for you but you have eaten it so many times , Believe me !

Now what actually gluten is ?

Gluten is a type of protein found in wheat , barley and rye . It is basically present in foods to maintain their shape . It gives a work of glue means holding the food together . It is considered as bad as it doesn’t contain required nutrients .

Gluten is such a important food holder that it is found in every another food item .

  • Breads
  • Cakes
  • Candies 
  • Cookies
  • Cereals
  • Sauces
  • Soups
  • Salad dressings etc.

Similarly many other food items contain barley , rye and triticale

  • Pasta

  • Meat substitutes.

Now what is gluten intolerance ?

It is an immune reaction to eating gluten or in another words it is named as Celiac disease . A person who have celiac disease if consumes gluten his/her small intestine gets damage because of the inflammation . So it is very important for them to avoid gluten -containing foods .

It is an autoimmune disease which seriously requires medical treatment .

Symptoms of gluten intolerance/celiac disease

  • Diarrhea
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Bloating and abdominal pain
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Mouth ulcers.
  • Joint pain
  • Anemia
  • Person suffering from celiac have stools looser than usual .

Cause of celiac disease

It can be genetically inherited or this is common among caucasians and those having Addison’s disease , Rheumatoid arthritis , Down syndrome , Type 1 diabetes , Multiple sclerosis , Irritable bowel syndrome , Lactose intolerance etc .

How to diagnose glucose intolerance ?

1. Serology testing :- This testing searchs for antibodies in your blood . Increased levels of reacted antibody proteins indicates the existence of celiac disease .

2. Endoscopy :- In which a tube is inserted from your mouth into the throat . This tube contains camera inside it which gives the view of small intestine 

3. Tests for iron deficiency .

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Fish and other sea foods 
  • Beans and Nuts
  • Dairy.

Why is it considered unhealthy for you ?

It is considered as bad as there is no essential nutrients present it . As such it is not unhealthy for everyone  just  those with celiac are highly allergic to it . 

If you are allergic to anything or are suffering from any disease , it really not ends your life . Its just a small part of your life . You can consider many healthy and other delicious options if you are allergy to gluten . Giving up is never a solution . Believe in your food and your choice and consider healthy and safe diets for yourself .
